Two Cases of Methemoglobinemia

Abstract
|
|
|
Author experienced two cases of acquired methemoglobinemia due to Dapsone intoxication (Case 1: 36% of total hemoglobin, Case 2: 85% of total hemoglobin).
Case 2 showed severe cyanosis, drowsy mental state and audible systolic murmur at apex.
Methemoglobin level was decreased by oral administration of methylene blue but hematologic changes such as granulocytopenia, mononuclear leukocytosis and indirect bilirubinemia (3mg. %) which induced by Dapsone were remained even after methylene blue therapy.
Review of the literature was also made.
